Hosting a block party is a great way to make new friends and get to know your neighbors. Because planning a block party can be a little stressful if you don’t know your neighbors well, get started as early as you can. Breaking the planning process up into smaller, more manageable steps will make it easier to get everything organized on your schedule. Try to estimate how many people will come to your party based on the number of homes in your neighborhood. Choose a space that can accommodate all of your guests as well as their friends and relatives.Want more? Click here{{/tag} If you think that a lot of people will show up, you can move your party to a local park.

Since block parties are held outside, choosing the right space is the easy part. Booking entertainment can be a bit more complicated, especially if you want to hire a band or a DJ. If you are going to host your party in a public space, make sure that you don’t need to have special permits to hire outdoor entertainment. To keep your party simple, you can always bring your own music and ask your neighbors to bring one dish of food. Once your party is planned, invite your neighbors and hang up flyers that advertise your party’s time and location.

A carnival is a great fundraising idea for a community. Rides and games can be set up in a large area. Vendors can prepare food to sell to guests. Wristbands can be sold for one price that allows people to ride as many rides as they want. Tickets can also be sold if people only want to do a few things. A fun event to have at a carnival is a magic show. Children and parents can pay a small price when they enter the carnival to see the show. All of the money raised can go to the community.

Another idea is to have a large meal at a community center or school in the area. Tickets can be sold in advance for the meal so that organizers know how much food to prepare. The meal can also be catered. A general number should be given to the caterer so that he knows how much food to fix. Extra food can be made in case some people cannot purchase a ticket before the event.

An auction can also be held as a fundraiser. People in the community can make crafts or offer items from their business, and people can bid on that item.

Years ago, a parent’s biggest concern with Trick or Treating was how to prevent cavities in their children’s teeth.

Today, parents are ever more worried, not with the candy, but with the people their children may encounter while out demanding a treat from the neighbors. While children are urged to only go to homes they are familiar with, most children do not.

This is where the worry comes in. How is a parent or child supposed to recognize a bad person from a good one when nearly all are wearing masks and the whole point to many, is to scare the children coming for treats?

With no clear way to identify a potential danger to one’s child, some parents opt to travel through the streets with their children, while others skip Trick or Treating altogether, and find a safe community event to attend, instead, such as at a local mall or school.

A few tips for those who do go out:

Approach houses with a buddy, and only if the home is well lit.

Never go inside the home.

Have fun. Yes, there are dangers, but don’t let fear take all the fun out of the event.

The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: #960 Strategic trick-or-treating

When there is a problem in the community, all those who live in it begin to feel as if they are part of it as well. Today, there are many concerns revolving around the gang outreach in the community. Older gang members have been actively trying to seek out younger ones to join their clique. This is creating a huge concern for the parents and other adults in the community. The only way to stop this disaster is by educating the children of the dangers that gangs can create in their lives.

A great way to keep children out of the dangers of gang life is by creating other alternative activities for them to participate in. Those who join gangs usually do so they can feel accepted by others. These individuals may have been loners or picked on. By joining the gang, they feel as if they have a sense of security and acceptance from others. Their fellow gang members become like family to them. The only issue is that once you join a gang, you gain so much information about it that you are not technically allowed to leave it. This creates a dangerous living situation for the members who wish to get out, and for their families.

If you have a community center located in your town, do all that you can to help support that community center. You will find that it can be a major tool in your community to provide help to those in need.

A community center can provide a place for children to go after school until their parents get off. It can have people in place that help them do their homework, participate in crafts and many may even help a youngster to learn a lifelong skill.

Having a community center is a great way to help children stay off the streets and out of trouble. When a community center is able to provide projects, hobbies, sports and other interesting activities, children tend to have a better time and want to be there.

A community center can be the place that your child goes to make friends, find a great mentor and learn some really good values from the other quality people that both attend and work there.

A community center is also a great place for children to learn how to appreciate their community and how to give back so that when they are older, they are able to help other children in the same way that they were helped.

The importance of community centers offers an endless list of positives. Community centers offer a place for people to gather with like agendas, such as, adult and children’s games, voting booths, community meetings, community dinners, fund raisers and much more. Community centers help to nourished old and new friendships. Many lifelong friendships began at a community center.

Community centers help to get children and young adults off the street, giving them purpose in their life. Scheduled games offer kids the opportunity to show off their talents that they may not necessarily have. Kids need a place to gather and feel like they belong. Many community centers do so well that they are able to offer scholarships to children who want to further their education.

If everyone tied to the community center offers time and some funds they can keep their valuable services protected and going. Community centers can also host fund raisers to add monies to the budget.

Community centers are a valuable asset to a community, in that it gets neighbors together for the good of the community, fighting the cause for a crime free and healthy neighborhood. Crime rates will likely drop when neighbors support each other. Community centers are a great asset.
